Our Philosophy
It is important to understand how we work because it is the foundation upon which we make recommendations. In our business we work exclusively with clients to help them with retirement and estate planning. For most, this implies the client is no longer working or is about to retire. When this happens their ability to earn additional income is limited and there is generally insufficient time to replace any significant investment losses. As a result, our focus is to work with clients to protect their retirement savings and investments from risk, thereby assuring that they have money to live on for the balance of their lives.
Your Goals
Your goals are where we start. In order to be able to make sound recommendations, we need to know what you want to accomplish in retirement and beyond. Do you need retirement income from your investments and/or qualified retirement accounts, and what do you plan to leave to your heirs and beneficiaries? Who do you want to leave your estate to? How are you preparing for taxation of your estate as it affects your beneficiaries? How will you pay for critical illnesses and other care as you age? Do you have a trust? What kind of trust(s) is it? Has it been reviewed recently? Do you understand beneficiary issues and options? Do you wish to protect highly appreciated assets from significant taxation (please note that there are some important gotcha's with the changes and eventual discontinuation of the estate tax laws in 2010). The answers to these and other questions will help us determine what we can accomplish.
Financial Review
In order to make a sound financial recommendation we need to understand your financial situation. To do this we will need to know your income, your ongoing expenses and the retirement savings and investments you wish to protect.
Recommendations
Typically we will provide 2 or 3 recommendations of potential investments that meet your retirement goals and as a minimum accomplish the following:
